How did you two meet?:
We met in college at Eastern Michigan University. I, Raymon Sherrell, was walking up the stairs in Downing Residential Hall and Courtney Arnold was walking down the stairs. I noticed her right away so I made eye contact with her and I said, "Wow, you are cute!" She subsequently responded by saying I was cute as well. And that was the beginning of our love affair over 10 years ago.
How did you find your venue? Were you happy with it?:
We were extreme happy with our Venue. Kelli Juth, our Event Coordinator, was outstanding. She did everything she possible could to make our day as special as it could be and she succeeded beyond measure. The views of the golf course, South Mountain, the landscape and overall scenery was exemplary. The price for the Venue and Rehearsal dinner was well within our budget and Kelli made sure that we should NOT stress out about the money all the while adding additional perks and incentives. We would highly recommend Raven Golf course to all of our friends.
Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception:
Our wedding colors were Plum and Gray. The theme of our wedding was "Royalty." To follow the theme, we had various sized diamonds strewn across all the tables with 3 tier floating candle vases as the centerpieces. Inside the vases were diamonds, a submersible LED light, a plum flower and a candle. Our cake even had diamond accents on it.
What piece of advice would you give other couples planning their big day?:
Don't sweat the small stuff. Enjoy every moment because it goes by very quickly. Be intimately involved in it. To save money we designed and created many items for our wedding, such as our centerpieces, our welcome and well wishes sign, etc. We shopped around for deals because we paid for our wedding ourselves, but I won't sugarcoat anything and say it wasn't stressful at times because it very much was stressful. You will have some pitfalls. We had a vendor cancel a month before the wedding. We had family members RSVP months in advance and cancel the week of the wedding. And of course the financial burden is always stressful. However, with our hands intimately involved in every facet of our wedding and with the tremendous help of Kelli, we were able to control a lot of things and know that the final outcome was by our design. And once the day of the wedding arrives, all of the stresses and chaotic situations don't matter. All that matters is the look on your spouses face as you say "I do."
