How did he propose?: It was the week of December 10th and Ramya had an AZ trip planned that weekend to finalize her move from Albuquerque. When Shreyas suggested redeeming the hot air balloon Groupon they'd bought, Ramya's perceptive antennae sprung right up and she had an inkling a proposal was in the horizon. The thursday before she was scheduled to fly out Ramya got a call from Shreyas saying the balloon ride was cancelled because of weather. Now what? go ahead with new plans or wait a month or longer for the planets to align for the hot air balloon ride? Shreyas needed a fool proof plan in a few hours! Popples (the dog) to the rescue! Cute dog, new collar, new charm. suddenly things started to click, it all started to make sense! She would never guess it. The perfect plan, finally! Shreyas called Petco to setup the appointment, explained the plan to the groomer and asked Ramya to call her and setup the appointment. Her mind flooded with pre-travel work deadlines, Ramya didn't suspect anything.
It's now Friday Dec 14th 2012. Shreyas picked Ramya up from an appointment and they made their way to Petco to pick up Popples. Ramya wasn't sure why Shreyas insisted on coming into the store with her but it wasn't a battle worth picking so off they go. Popples' groomer Liz brought him out as always and commented about the new collar he had on. Ramya was extremely confused cuz she definitely had not sent Popples in with that collar. Did Shreyas buy him a new one despite her protests in the past? was the collar Petco's special for the month???? Liz then pointed to "the charm that comes with the collar". Lo and behold, engraved on the collar were the words: "Mama, Will You Marry Dada - Love Popples". It all came together in an instant and she turned around to find Shreyas on one knee with a sweet proposal that ended in "of course!" He had FINALLY succeeded in surprising her albeit at Petco :) and the sweetest part of the entire experience was POPPLES!!! Ramya's world revolves around Popples. To have him in the proposal pictures meant more than any hot air balloon ride.
Were you happy with the venue?: We LOVED The Secret Garden from the minute we set foot during an open house! All the staff were great and very willing to understand our needs even though an Indian Ceremony wasn't something they were used to. We met with Jessica first and fell in love with her and the place. She wasn't working the day of our wedding so Alexis worked with us and we were just as happy. She worked well with our wedding planners and with our crazy timelines to make our day so memorable.
Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception: We had a traditional Indian wedding so it was as colorful as colorful can be! Our main altar and ceremony seating was Fuschia and Orange which are traditional Indian wedding colors. We knew they would pop in the outdoor garden setting and no photo would be a bad photo. For the reception we wanted a summery garden feel to go with what the ceremony site has to offer. We picked Coral and Aqua as our colors with tall fresh flower arrangements as our center pieces. For a more personal touch, we added pictures of "Us at ...." different ages as our table numbers.
What piece of advice would you give other couples planning their big day? Know each others' strengths so wedding planning is fun vs. stressful. Make sure you know what you want and what you're willing to compromise on. It's your day at the end of it all and you want to make sure you remember and cherish everything, even the smallest things that mean a lot to you! regardless of what anyone else thinks.
