When you have a landscape as breathtaking and dramatic as the one found at the Boulders Resort & Spa, you don’t want to try to compete with it in your wedding design. Instead, you want to complement it, which is exactly what Nicole Arend of Nicole Arend Weddings & Events did when she designed this photo shoot at this iconic north Scottsdale wedding venue.
In choosing her color palette, Nicole was inspired by the shades of green found in the desert, then wanted to balance them with a moody, modern feel, so she added purple and touches of gold. Chrissie Lacey of Party Bee Invitations used two different shades of purple in her elegantly scripted invitation suite.
For the ceremony, Nicole chose a setting that would showcase the resort’s namesake boulders, so she certainly didn’t want to block the view. Tony Medlock of PJs Flowers & Events creatively solved that challenge by draping a rustic wooden frame with wispy curly willow, then hanging small flower-filled vases from the branches. In place of a traditional bouquet, he gave our bride a uniquely striking willow purse filled with roses, succulents and other blooms that complemented the shoots color palette.
It’s not often that a Scottsdale wedding venue has a Native American-inspired tipi onsite, even here in the Southwest. So Nicole took full advantage of that fact by staging it as a setting for some amazing photo ops. Nicole added extra Southwestern flair to her design with a gold-flecked faux cowhide rug and the arrow side tables in the lounge area.
Good Southwestern design calls for a variety of textures, and we see them here in the rustic harvest table, the caning and wood detail on the wingback chairs and sofa, the soft velvet pillows and the fluffy mohair poufs, all from Glamour & Woods.
The gorgeous three-tiered cake by the resort’s pastry chef is literally dripping with color. Nicole then added even more pops of purple in the table runner, candles and pillows. We love the sweet addition of purple cotton candy to the champagne glasses. How fun!
The sweetheart neckline of our bride’s elegant lace gown is so beautiful that it doesn’t even need a necklace. And check out the fun floral tie our groom is sporting with his dark blue three-piece suit!
This fabulous team of Arizona’s finest vendors definitely captured the spirit of the Southwest in this dazzling wedding design.
